The band concentrated on rehearsing and recording original songs before attempting any live performances, generating a lot of interest through regular air-play on local Community and University radio stations with the demo recording of Teslas enigmatic song '
Funtimes'. Vonnie and Ted were also busy designing and developing ideas for the overall image and presentation of the group while Nigel
and Nik were keen to introduce some theatrical elements to the scheduled live performances. After drawing record numbers to the
first series of live shows in Adelaide including over 450 people to the first show at the Tivoli Hotel, Nuvo Bloc recorded the self-financed
first single 'Atomic Fiction' with plans of an album as soon as funds would allow.
The group quickly developed a strong following in Adelaide but had to rely on self-management and the generous support of friends to continue, with little interest from
any of the major record companies or the music industry in general (gee, where have I heard that before?). The pressures and frustrations of having to spend more time on s
eemingly everything but the music inevitably led to a few tensions within the group with Peter, Vonnie and Ted continuing Nuvo Bloc as a three piece electronic group and
moving to Sydney. While Nuvo Bloc probably didn't fulfill its original potential as a recording and performance group, it certainly shone brightly, for a few cosmic moments
anyway. Return to the Archives.
