Nuvo Bloc

Nuvo Bloc perform at the finals of the ' ROCK OFF', a competition for Adelaide bands which was staged at ten in the morning in the Adelaide University Cloisters and was promoted by public radio station 5MMM fm, now broadcasting as 3D Radio in Adelaide. All 6 finalists were declared equal winners!. The ongoing support and promotion of local music by 3D Radio is now widely considered to
be one of the main reasons for the resurgence of live music in Adelaide since the late 1970's. Photo V. Wilson.
Post-punk New Wave music from Adelaide.
Nuvo Bloc was formed in early 1980 by Peter Tesla and Ted Thornberry after Peter had parted ways with Adelaide group Terminal Twist and was looking to start
a new group so he teamed up with Ted and Nigel after they had both left the group, 'Lemmy Caution'. Vonnie had been writing songs with Ted and so also joined
the group, adding a much-needed feminine balance and Nik had been playing with them for a few weeks. I met Peter at a friends house and I mentioned that I had
decided to leave the 'U-Bombs' and looking contribute to a new band, something a bit more musically challenging than 'punk' music. He said that he had been writing a
lot of songs and briefed me on what he'd been doing with the others and I jumped at the chance when he invited me to come and audition with the group. The six
of us were crammed into Pete's bedroom for the first rehearsal and as soon as we started playing, we all seemed to 'click', as it were. As the other members had
already been writing and rehearsing together for some weeks, I found it relatively easy to come straight in and play along to their tight, well-rehearsed yet complex
arrangements. It was obvious to everyone present that we had a pretty exciting 'thang' happening!. And so I got the gig.

we certainly raised a few eyebrows! Photo S. Keogh
